2026 SUMMER ARTS WORKSHOPS

This summer, we are pleased to offer fun and rewarding classes to aspiring young artists of all levels. Whether you are looking to try a new art form or build upon prior skills, our classes will provide participants ages 7-17 a chance to develop important fundamentals across a variety of arts disciplines. Located at our Signal Hill headquarters (3299 Walnut Ave. Signal Hill, 90755), these classes include One-Week Arts Intensives and a Five-Week Arts Camp with each week culminating in
a student showcase opportunity. ALL CLASS DESCRIPTIONS ARE BELOW

COURSE SCHEDULE: This summer we are offering two course tracks to choose from: BEGINNER LEVEL for younger artists or those with little to no experience and ADVANCED LEVEL for returning participants, older artists or those with more experience. The Beginner Level will run from 8AM-12PM and the Advanced Level will run from 9AM-1PM. Participants will work together during the 3-hour overlap. Parents, please select the level you feel is best for your child. 

 

REGISTRATION: Early bird registration will open on March 1, 2026 and is open to anyone ages 7-17. If you are an Act Out Alumni outside of this age range, please contact us if you are interested in a class. A 10% discount will be provided to any Act Out Alumni, please contact us for a discount code. There is also a 10% discount for students at our partner school sites (Hoover MS, Hamilton MS, IVA, and Los Cerritos Elementary. Registration will close 1-week prior to the beginning of each class and space is limited. **Early bird pricing ends May 1, 2026.

LUNCH: As our classes run for 4-hours, we strongly encourage participants to pack a lunch. We will have light snacks available and give students a short break to enjoy their lunch. Participants are also encouraged to bring water.

ATTIRE: Participants are expected to wear attire appropriate for movement, stretching, dance, etc. Midriffs, short shorts, skirts, sandals/flip flops, etc. are discouraged.

SCHOLARSHIPS: We offer scholarships on a financial-need basis. Scholarships and financial assistance are offered as space and enrollment allow. If you believe you may qualify, please fill out the Financial Assistance Application by clicking the button below.

CANCELED CLASS: A class may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not reached up to three (3) business days before the start of the class. In this event, you may request a transfer to a different class or request a full refund.

REFUNDS: Refunds can be requested prior to the start date of the class but due to the limited number of spaces available in our classes there will be a $50 per class drop fee. No refunds will be issued after the start date of the class. REFUND POLICIES ARE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

This five-week course will introduce participants to a wide variety of the fundamental principles of theatrical arts. With a focus on different aspects each week, professional instructors from numerous disciplines will teach participants about acting, character analysis, emotional exercise, storytelling, video production, creative writing, movement, stage combat, singing, and more. Participants will gain hands-on experience through theatre games, exercises, and numerous performance opportunities. Each week will have a special guest to provide more specialized feedback to your children, as well as provide opportunities to connect with professionals in the field! You can read a detailed description of each week’s activities below. Whether you are new to the theatre or have lots of experience, our curriculum is comprehensive and accessible. Participants are welcome to join us for these five weeks of creative enrichment, performances, and fun!

CENTER STAGE: The Actor's Studio

This first week introduces students to the art of acting and acquaints them with the fundamentals of rehearsal and performance. Students participate in a variety of exercises, improvisations, scene work, and activities that help them build confidence and have fun. Through lively games, imaginative exercises, and collaborative scene work, students will explore the excitement of performing and discover just how much fun it is to bring stories to life on stage. By the end of the week, each student will take home a short scene or performance piece they’ve created, showcasing their new acting skills!

WEEK 2
THE STORY LAB: The Art of Storytelling July 6-9, 2026

This second week introduces students to the exciting world of storytelling, exploring many forms including playwriting, screenwriting, poetry, and more! Students will learn the fundamentals of storytelling while also diving into more advanced and creative techniques across different mediums. By the end of the week, each student will take home a completed story, scene, or written piece that highlights their creativity and unique voice!

VIDEO PRODUCTION & ACTING FOR THE CAMERA
July 13–16, 2026

This fun-filled video production camp encourages students to unleash their creativity by making their own short film! Participants will learn camera basics, shooting, editing, and acting for the screen, while those who attended the previous weeks have the chance to incorporate skills such as acting, storytelling, improv, costuming, and makeup. By the end of the week, each student will take home a completed short film that they helped create from start to finish!

Week 3

WEEK 4
LIGHTS UP: The Art of Musical Theatre 
July
20-23, 2026

Theatre

This immersive musical theater workshop combines the artistry of dance, the physicality of stage combat, and the dramatic flair of musical performance. Designed for performers of all levels, students will explore both the fundamentals and advanced techniques of choreography, singing, and stage combat, enhancing their ability to tell a story through movement, music, and action. By the end of the week, each participant will take home a short musical performance or routine they helped create and perform.

WEEK 5
BACKSTAGE PASS: The Art of Stagecraft
July 27–30, 2026

Concert Soundboard Setup

This final week introduces students to the behind-the-scenes aspects of theater! Students receive hands-on instruction in a variety of topics, including stage management, sound, lighting, and costume design, as well as practical skills they can apply to any theatrical job in the future. The week culminates in a short performance where onstage and backstage roles come together to create the magic of theater.
